Building With Books
What screenshotdoes a bibliophile's ideal bedroom look like? It's filled with books, of course. But these books aren't just stuffed in bookcases and piled on the floor, they're the building blocks of the furnishings. Taking a novel approach to building furniture, these MIT artists constructed every stick of furniture in this bedroom using old, discarded, and donated books. From the rocking chair -- made from 98 outdated MIT staff directories -- to the curving bench built from 27 volumes of "Communications of the Association of Computing Machinery" (this is MIT, after all). The surprisingly comfortable bed and its pillow, sheet, and quilt supply both reading and sleeping material. This room was made for book lovers, no matter what their taste in reading -- or building -- material. (in Design Arts)

Sports: Breaking Records, Breaking Barriers
The screenshotRed Sox win the World Series, and for many Bosox fans, the world has become a better place. Sports shape our culture, both on and off the field. More than that, sports can shatter barriers -- physical, social, psychological, racial, cultural -- and change the way we think about our world. This exhibit portrays athletes from more than a dozen sports, from the groundbreakers to the miracle-makers, and shows how they touched us with their personal and professional feats. There were those who re-defined their games, and some who championed causes. A select few were larger than life. And then there were those who simply inspired us. (in Sports)

Project Foil
So, screenshotthese three dudes are sitting around their dorm room, facing four days with nothing to do. They're bored. When suddenly, it hits them. The perfect project to pull them out of their ennui -- cover their roommates' room with foil. They would wrap everything -- from the furniture to the teensiest items on it, under it, and over it. The ceiling, walls, even one victim's guitars and guitar picks were encased in the shiny stuff. A mere 1500 square feet of aluminum foil and four days later, the dedicated trio of students completed the task. In meticulously chronicling Project Foil, Sam Holton shows us the focus, hard work, and creativity that epitomize students in America's institutions of higher learning. Their parents must be so proud. (in Humor)
